HICKORY GROVE
Baptist Church

Our History

"I am content to fill a little space if God be glorified.", Susanna Wesley, mother of John and Charles Wesley

Hickory Grove Baptist Church was established in 1911 about six miles southeast of Kilgore. Originally called the Missionary Baptist Church of Christ and meeting under a brush arbor, the congregation bought land and built a building in 1912. In 1930 the name was changed to Hickory Grove Baptist Church. In 1936 the first Sunday School was organized and the Lord's Supper was first observed. In 1974, classrooms were added to the side and front, and in 1991 this structure was relocated across the street from the present facilities. In 1992 the present sanctuary building was built, seating 170 people. In 2002 the congregation voted to add an education wing, consisting of a fellowship hall and kitchen, two nursery rooms, eleven classrooms and offices, four restrooms, and several storage areas. Then in 2010 a 70' x 110' two-story youth facility was added on the west side of the previous buildings. It included a 50' x 50' gym/multi-purpose room, seven classrooms, an office, a 30' x 30' children's sanctuary and storage rooms and restrooms on the first floor, and an office, break room, activity room, four classrooms, a youth worship center, and storage rooms on the second floor. In 2016 the parking lot was resurfaced.

God's plan and desire is for each Christian to grow. To assist you in your growth, Hickory Grove Baptist Church provides opportunities to fellowship with other believers, to hear and study God's Word, to be prayed for and pray for others, to receive comfort from testimonies of believers who have victory over life's heartaches, and to understand that the opportunities for you to grow in faith are limitless. We're here for you! Before you can grow as a Christian-and share Jesus with others-you must first know Him as Lord and Savior. Then, to help you grow, we invite you to join us in Sunday School, participate in Bible studies, attend church services, pray with us in Wednesday Bible Study and prayer meeting, grow in discipleship training, and last, but not least, enjoy fellowship with other believers at our church fellowship meals and special events.

Hickory Grove is very privileged to have three ordained ministers-a Senior Pastor, an Associate Pastor/Youth Minister, and a Children's Minister-as well as numerous Bible teachers, all of whom are dedicated to sharing God's Word with adults, youth and children of all ages.

Please join us. Just like your own family members of God's family need one another.

For over 100 years, Hickory Grove has faithfully served Jesus and shared Him with others as He commanded. The congregation has always been mission-minded, giving financially and personally to foreign, national and local projects. Annual events such as Vacation Bible School and Fall Fest have always been open to the whole community. In 2011 it was recognized with a Texas Heritage plaque for its 100 years of service.
